Future residence

Wow....stay tuned to the continuing house saga of the Garrard/Kartchner. Pretty much changes weekly!

I do LIKE this weeks plan.... move to a house that is done... on the water. This week we will explore the options of that plan.

Here is a photo of the water side of the house.... amazing covered porch, both upstairs and downstairs. It is screaming for me to do a little landscaping... a nice blank slate. The inside has some pluses, some minuses... but nothing that we can't live with....!

klondyke road race

Last weekend finished a road race that travels from Skagway, AK to Whitehorse, Yukon. 1000 teams, 10 teamates, legs of 8-16 miles, starts in the eve, ends mid-day.
Sounds like fun!!?
We had a blast. Our team the "12 hr holds" all folks based out of the ED. WE didn't win the race, but I sure we won the party.
My running career for this summer ceases w/ this event. The rain is now side ways and heavy!! Weather is cooling abit. Now we wait for snow to begin our outside fun!

The Harvest

It was a rainy, cool, Alaska summer. I would have been more successful had the weather cooperated. Still, I am proud of my small, but lovely harvest.
Super motivated to attempt some sustainable living. Eating locally, etc. Takes alot of energy in Ak... unfortunately of the fossil fuel type. Always hopefully for next year. John has sorta agreed to build me a greenhouse..... just haven't to figure out where. STay tuned.

Indian Cove

I got off abit late after paying the rent and headed over to indian Cove. Bumpy muddy road just past the ferry terminal. The houses are kind of stuck together as I'm sure you're a ware but I found the place just as th neighbor was wandering around. I think her name is Patricia (but don't quote me) and asked if they were having an open house tomorrow. She said yes and we began to talk about the house.

The elderly lady who lived there died after a heart problem a few years ago leaving her husband to fend for himself. he was in early stages of alzheimers and did't fair too well. long story short he committed suicide not in the house because he didn't want tolive with out his wife. She said it seemed more romantic than sad and it didn't happen in the house.

I guess there are two sons, 1 local, that has taken care of (looked after ) the place since then. The house she thinks has been on the market for about 2 months , all or their stuff mostly fuiture I guess is still inside. She bought the place next door a few years ago and has put 300K into it upgrading and making a B&B out of it. Nice gal you'd probably be have vino's every afternoon talking remodels with her.

Great view as you can see by the prelim pics, looking thru the windows from the deck to the inside, you'd probably set an early time schedule to remove the popcorn ceiling surface and paint some non white colors in the interior.

Bottom floor is relatively open floor plan . there is a pool table a loom , lots of yarn (good stuff) with access to a bed room and bath on one side and the workshop/garage on the other. Appaereantly they raised the workshop ceiling which made the seond story bedroom a "low ceiling room" above it. She said it might be 6'8" but you'd hve too do a walk thru tosee if it was really uncomfortable. (entertainment/office)

you could probably enclose part of the lower porch as a green house if you wanted. you would be giving up a view from below but thats the price youpay for $600 tomatoes.

The streets are not city owned so there is a community pot for grading and snow plowing. Pretty tight between houses, you would be giving up the garden for the beach.(whichI think you would use). There is room for a deck and hot tub out front. They still have a couple of rusty wheels amongst the grass towards the tide line.

She thinks its a great deal, she thinks its assesed at 670K but who knows, She thought it has "good bones" and given the chance she would have bought this house over hers.

I have plans to do the open house but my schedule tomorrow is tight. There is a lock box on the door so it looks like we can set up aan appointment at any time.

Best of luck on your race, Jack had a good time going and hangin at school early.

All is good, paid the rent, and looking forward to whatever we put into motion

Love me
